I believe we all have gifts, things we are intrinsically good at. I was fortunate enough to find mine at a young age which ultimately lead me to establish Painted Treasures by Chelsea. There's one gift we all share though and that is the gift of life; the most beautiful and precious gift of all.
Over the years I've come to realize that although what I provide is "stuff", it's what fills our homes & our work spaces. It quietly becomes a kind of backdrop to our story, our lives, weaving itself throughout our memories. It starts to take on its own life and has proven to become a meaningful extension of us and our loved ones, even after they're gone. I've made angel wings for a woman who lost her 4 year old son; a memorial bench for a family to gather around at the tragic loss of their father, husband and son; painted countless pieces that were left in the hands of grieving clients wanting to hold on to a piece from a lost loved one as a comforting way of staying connected and remembering them. I was honored and humbled to help so many rebuild after Sandy; work with clients who lost belongings from house fires; and always grateful when my art can contribute to any of the noble charities or fundraisers I get asked to donate to. And fortunately more often than not I get to make pieces for happy occasions, milestones like weddings, new businesses, excited soon to be moms furnishing their babies nurseries, props for newborn photo shoots, broke newlyweds just starting out with tons of dreams, not a nickel to their name but that Painted Treasure they just had to have for their new apartment.
Witnessing the surprisingly profound impact our stuff, my art, can have on people is what compelled me to launch The Fallen Feather Project. Bringing light to a dark situation; a bit of happiness and comfort where there is sadness and loss; and hopefully bringing a glimmer of peace and hope where challenges lie. See when a bird loses a feather, it disconnects from the bird, but the bird still flies. And that fallen feather's life does not need to end there. It can be "repurposed", enjoyed in another way and carry on a new life with it. Feathers also have a magical beauty and symbolize strength and healing throughout many cultures and religions. Similarly so does art. It has an unspoken power to move people, to heal, to do something words often can't.
That's what Painted Treasures by Chelsea and The Fallen Feather Project are all about. One recipient is selected monthly to have something custom made up to $100 value. They may chose to have a piece painted that was left behind by a loved one, repurpose a sentimental treasure or design something custom that will be a source of light and comfort.
Feel free to submit a request to become a Fallen Feather Project recipient for yourself or behalf of a loved one that may benefit. Recipients are contacted on the 1st of each month and will receive their custom Painted Treasure within in 4 weeks from final design confirmation. To all who have fallen at the hands of any kind of loss or tragedy, Id be honored to offer my gift and make it yours.
With love & gratitude,
Chelsea
